What is Academic Vs. General ?

IELTS Academic

i). Listening Test :  It will be of 30 minutes duration.

Note:  FOUR recorded MONOLOGUES and CONVERSATIONS will be.

ii). Reading Test: It will be for 60 minutes duration

Three LONG READING PASSAGES with tasks are given. Passages  may include diagrams, graphs, or illustrations taken from books, journals, magazines and newspapers.

iii). Writing Test:  It will be of 60 minutes duration

The candidates are supposed to Summarize, describe or explain a Table, Graph, Chart or Diagram and a Short Essay task or at least 250 words written..

iv). Speaking Test: It will be of 11 - 14 minutes duration.

In this task the candidates are asked to attend Face to Face(F2F) interview without disruptions or distraction. It also include short questions, speaking at length about a familiar topic and a structured discussion.

IELTS General Training

i).Listening Test: It will be of 30 minutes duration.

FOUR recorded monologues and Conversations are given.

ii).Reading Test:  It will be 60 minutes duration. In this category there are THREE sections given as under..

Section 1 contains TWO or THREE short factual Texts/Passages.

Section 2 contains TWO short, work-related, factual Texts/Passages.

Section 3 contains ONE longer TEXT on a topic of General Interest. Texts are authentic and taken from notices, advertisements, company handbooks, official documents, books and newspapers.

iii).Writing Test: It will be of 60 minutes duration.

The candidates may be asked to write letters(task) of at least in 150 words. Also, they may be asked to write short Essay (task)of at least in 250 words.

iv).Speaking Test: It will be of 11 to 14 minutes duration
